When Giovanni Dallavalle immigrated from Austria to Silverton, Colorado, in the late 1800's, his wildest dream was to be a wild west cowboy! He began by building a rooming house and saloon. John cut the two foot thick slabs of granite from a quarry south of town and hauled them to his site on the corner of 13th and "Notorious Blair Street" to build the first stone building on Blair Street. No one knows how long he toiled. However, in 1901, the Silverton Standard proudly proclaimed "JOHN DALLA HAS FINISHED HIS TYROLEAN SALOON" and the legacy of the Villa Dallavalle began!
The Villa Dallavalle has been in the Dallavalle family for well over 100 years. It has returned to its original intent of a first class lodging facility reflecting the history of three generations of Silverton pioneers in a colorful past! Every room of the Inn depicts a particular chapter of Dallavalle/Silverton history. The entire building exists as a testimonial to a southwestern Colorado mining town and one family's relationship to that town.
All rooms have private baths, satellite TV, telephones, and magnificent views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains. Individual thermostats keep you warm in winter along with the light weight down comforters. In the summer, open your window to let in that fresh, crisp mountain air.
A warm and inviting lobby offers our guests a chance to unwind upon check-in with access to our beverage buffet. Get settled into your room and then join us for wine and cheese before going to dinner at one of our local restaurants all within walking distance of the Villa. Many nostalgic moments have been spent around the large table in the lobby echoing Silverton's past. Stories that will bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eye when relived by Silverton's master storyteller, Gerald Swanson. Gerald has lived on Notorious Blair Street for most of his life and the stories just keep coming. Join us for a trip to the past that you won't find anywhere else. Often, other locals drop by and the conversations become lively!
We have a lobby bar where your favorite beverage may be purchased. Your beverage may be enjoyed in your room or on the small upstairs deck over looking Anvil Mountain.
In the summer months, enjoy our outside Beer and Wine Garden under the trees with views of surrounding mountains. The sound of cascading water takes your attention to a replica of an old time mining sluice. Swanee's Sluice, on location, will give you a true mining experience along with Silverton's best souvenir, a bag of semi-precious gem stones to take home. Entertainment by various local musicians and a sample of local culinary fare complete your afternoon and early evening experience. One that will be enjoyed by all ages and sure to be the most memorable of your vacation.
Spend a laid back afternoon in our new "beer and wine garden" in the side yard of the Villa. Live Entertainment is featured on several occasions in the lounge and the garden.
Morning brings the aroma of fresh brewed coffee as our guests arrive in the breakfast area. Our boarding house breakfast will "jump start" your day. Bacon, Italian sausage, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, fruit, and yogurt are some of the hearty fare you will enjoy! Bill's homemade waffles are always a welcome hit to the breakfast experience!
Come join us at the "Villa"!
